10,000 Maniacs "Do A Little Dance Show," Recorded at the Lilac Festival, Rochester, NY - May 15th 2010 Edirol R-09 - Internal Mics - AGC=Off - Low Cut=Off - Mic Gain=Low - Input Level=6 48KHz 24bit WAV>Adobe Audition 1.5>44.1K 16 Bit>FLAC Frontend 1.7.1 Compression Level 8 Roughly 20 ft from the stage directly in line with centerstage. The sound company was Northeastern Production Systems Inc. It looked to me like they were flying 4 Martin Audio Wavefront Series cabenets on each side. Probably all W8C 12" high power mid-high cabs, with 4 WSX 18" horn loaded ground subs per side. (Which I think may have been a bit overkill for the subs hence the boomyness to the original recording, which is an accurate representation of how the event sounded.) Adobe Audition 1.5 EQ and Dynamic Processing has made this show alot more listenable. I can't tell you the amount of time I took getting the dynamics of this recording just so to get a nicely compressed output with absolutely zero clipping anywhere. :o) The EQ was applied first, and this was quite a process as well. Mary's vocals and everything else in the mids and highs were pretty flat. The recording definately lacked presence. I created four different EQ mixes before finaly coming up with a result I was at least mostly happy with. Then I started in on the dynamic processing. I hope you enjoy the effort!
